The Tennessee Electric Co-op Association, Inc. (TECA) Board of Directors invites applications for the position of Executive Vice President and GM. The Board has engaged Holmes Executive Search LLC to facilitate their search process.

The EVP/GM is hired by and reports to a twelve-member board representing the three districts of the association.

The Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association is a trade association established to serve the needs of Tennessee’s electric cooperatives. The association represents 25 individual power distributors including Tennessee’s 22 electric cooperatives, one municipal system and two electric cooperatives in northwest Georgia.

The Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association exists to provide leadership, advocacy, and support to unify and empower Tennessee’s consumer-owned electric co-ops.

The association empowers cooperatives to improve everyday life for their consumer-owners through the reliable delivery of safe and affordable energy and the advancement of Tennessee’s rural and suburban communities. Electric co-ops serve 71 percent of Tennessee. Electric co-ops power everyday life for rural and suburban Tennessee, but the work of co-ops goes beyond simply keeping the power on.

The position requires a minimum five years of senior management responsibility in a member-service association and/or the electric utility industry with specific experience in strategic planning and goal-setting, finance, budgeting, and legislative matters. To focus on future objectives while navigating a changing power marketplace, encouraging team cohesion is imperative. A bachelor’s degree or higher in business, engineering, finance or a related field is required.

Applicants should possess a strong understanding of the electric utility industry, the legislative and political processes both in Tennessee and nationally. Possess exceptional leadership ability and personal commitment to the collective purpose of electric cooperative model.  The successful candidate will have outstanding communications and interpersonal skills and be one of utmost integrity, developing strategic direction and building consensus to represent a unified voice for their diverse member systems. An understanding of the electric cooperative structure, TVA and the “valley” is important.

The association owns its headquarters office building, located in Nashville.  Nashville is the capital city of Tennessee. With a population of 689,447 at the 2020 U.S. census, Nashville is the most populous city in the state, 21st most-populous city in the U.S., and the fourth most populous city in the southeastern U.S. Located on the Cumberland River, the city is the center of the Nashville metropolitan area, which is one of the fastest growing in the nation.

Nashville is considered a global city type “Gamma” by the GaWC as of 2020. A major center for the music industry, especially country music, Nashville is commonly known as “Music City”.[12] It is home to three major professional sports teams, the Predators, Titans, and Nashville SC. Nashville is also home to numerous colleges and universities, including Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Fisk University, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Lipscomb University. Nashville is sometimes referred to as the “Athens of the South” due to the large number of educational institutions. The city is also a major center for the healthcare, publishing, banking, automotive, technology, and transportation industries. Entities with headquarters in the city include Alliance Bernstein, Asurion, Bridgestone Americas, Captain D’s, Hospital Corporation of America, LifeWay Christian Resources, Logan’s Roadhouse, Nissan North America, and Ryman Hospitality Properties.
