Job Summary:

Assists line service crews with preparations for constructing poles and electric lines by loading/unloading trucks, moving materials, setting barricades, talking with the public, and using required tools, while following all safety rules and policies. Almost constantly works outside. Frequently works under inclement weather conditions. Works within guidelines as identified in the collective bargaining unit with the IBEW.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must complete training and obtain a valid Tennessee Class “A”, Restriction 57 commercial drivers’ license within six (6) months from date of employment. Commercial Drivers’ License preferred.
  • Must complete and pass TVPPA Pre-Apprentice Assessment Workshop (climbing school) and TVPPA Lineman Apprentice Correspondence Course, Unit 1, on Basic Mathematics and Electricity within six (6) months from date of employment. Personnel not passing climbing school on first attempt; or any unit or portion of the designated course work within two (2) attempts will automatically be disqualified from the program.
  • Must complete a six (6) month employee training probationary period (“Training Period”). Individuals qualified after the Training Period may work out of classification, as specified in the collective bargaining unit with the IBEW.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the essential functions required, which includes responsibilities as directed.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and sincere desire to be of service in all areas covered by the position.
  • Encompass the three virtues of the Ideal Team Player (Humble, Hungry & People Smart).
  • Must meet residency requirements as prescribed and defined by the collective bargaining unit with the IBEW.
